Aims and Objectives To illuminate relatives’ experiences of everyday life after a loved one's stay in an intensive care unit. Background Relatives of intensive care patients experience considerable stress that can have a long-lasting effect on their everyday lives. Relatives frequently report anxiety, depression and complicated grief as a result of their experiences in the intensive care unit. Design A qualitative design was chosen. Abstract Context The integration of family members in the dying process and the recognition of their special needs are important factors for the development of high-quality palliative care. A Small Special Needs Class or a Smaller Class at the Beginning of the Educational Path?

<p>This article is based on the case study which focuses on the small class (in this article used to describe a small special needs class) operation of one medium-sized Finnish town. In the study an attempt was made to clarify what kind of alternative the small class is to the first grade of general education at the beginning of the child's educational path, what kind of experiences the teachers had of the pupils of the small class, of multi-vocational cooperation and of pupils' integration and success in general education. The study „Evaluation of the project influence on the development of inclusive education in project schools” was implemented from 2009 till 2011 in the project “Qualitative inclusive education for special needs children” (Education initiative centre, State Education content centre, Soros Foundation Latvia, more information in: http://www.iic.lv) with the aim to find out whether the project results brought changes in defined inclusive education indicators. The article analyzes how the cooperation of school’s pedagogues in promoting inclusive education in general comprehensive school has improved as a result of the project.

Short Form of Spanish Version of the WISC–IV for Intelligence Assessment in Elementary School Children

In educational settings, quick assessments of intelligence are often required to screen children with potential special needs. The WISC–IV is administered individually and takes between one and two hours to complete. Given its widespread use in Spain, a short-form of the Spanish version is likely to be of use to professionals. The goal of this research was to develop a short form of the WISC–IV that can be performed in approximately half an hour. Dental patients with special needs are people with different systemic diseases, multiple disorders or severe physical and/or mental disabilities. A Medline search was made, yielding a total of 29 articles that served as the basis for this study, which offers a brief description of the dental intervention protocols in medically compromised patients. Dental treatment in patients with special needs, whether presenting medical problems or disabilities, is sometimes complex.
